The $33.6 million stainless steel sculpture Tulips created by artist Jeff Koons was acquired by hotel tycoon Steve Wynn two months ago. Now it’s going on show to illuminate the Wynn theater rotunda where the Wynn and Encore hotels join.
Tulips was created in five versions for Jeff’s Celebration series, and this is one of the largest and most complex. It represents a bouquet of twisted balloon flowers cast in steel and brought to a high mirror polish and plated in a vivid spectrum of color. It might look weightless, but it uses more than 3 tons of sculpted steel.
Said Steve: “Many people believe that Jeff Koons is one of the most important living artists on canvas and in sculpture in the world today. I am happy to be one of those people and particularly delighted to share with our guests his magnificent creation. You will find the experience totally delicious.”
