Counter Intelligence: Bradley Ogden is back; Morton replaces Mina
Hot off the grill! Michelin Award winner and TV star chef Bradley Ogden is set to open a restaurant in Summerlin’s Tivoli Village. Vegas DeLuxe was first to report that his Harvest and Hops will follow his farm-to-table reputation, but with a vision of fun, casual fare in an interactive atmosphere for all ages. Renovations have begun on the former Burgers and Bottles space.
Bradley, who was at Caesars Palace for five years in the space now operated by Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill, is partnered with ex-Planet Hollywood honcho Bill Feather. His focus is on improving Tivoli’s restaurant offerings, and he has opened View Wine Bar, The Cheese Shoppe, Taste Market and Poppy Den with New York chef Angelo Sosa in the latter’s first out-of-town venture.
FAREWELL, NOBHILL: Chef Michael Mina is closing his Nobhill Tavern at MGM Grand on April 15 as part of the casino hotel’s new-look and remodeled branding. While he concentrates on his Pub 1842 that’s being converted from his former SeaBlue, Michael Morton of 9 Group will install a restaurant in place of Nobhill.
Michael Morton owns La Cave in the Wynn and is planning to open the Mexican restaurant La Comeda in the former laundry space of the El Cortez in April.
BASTIANICH EXPANDING? Restaurateur and vineyard owner Joe Bastianich, who is partnered with chef Mario Batali in New York and Las Vegas restaurants, fueled more speculation of Strip expansions this week. He was in The Venetian and Palazzo for discussions on two venues. While here, he dined at Gordon Ramsay in Paris Las Vegas.
Before enjoying Beef Wellington and porterhouse steaks, Joe checked out Gordon Ramsay BurGR in Planet Hollywood. Venetian execs deny “a done deal” with Mario for two restaurants or with Daniel Boulud, who has a restaurant in their sister property in Singapore. But they admit that they do hope to have an announcement soon about F&B additions.
VEGAS UNCORK’D PREVIEW: In advance of Vegas UnCork’d from May 9-12, Strip chefs flew to San Francisco to offer a preview of the food-and-wine fest. Bon Appetit’s Pamela Drucker Mann, publisher, and Adam Rapoport, editor, hosted hundreds of foodies at “Around the World on One Strip” at Hakkasan. Chefs and sommeliers from Bellagio, Mandalay Bay Caesars and MGM Grand gathered to present bites from England, Spain, Italy, Japan, France, Mexico and China.
“Hell’s Kitchen” winner Christina Wilson served GRS’ sticky toffee pudding, and Michael Mina shared his GoGo Yubari whiskey cocktails paired with Wagyu beef. Mary Sue Milliken from Border Grill offered her tamarind chinchon margarita, and Charlie Palmer served oysters with green apple-cucumber dressing. Chef Guy Savoy flies here Tuesday to open a cognac lounge in his highly awarded Restaurant Guy Savoy at Caesars. Cognac makes a first and unique change from the proliferation of tequila and vodka bars.
The Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay is opening an indoor/outdoor lobby, pool, garden, patio bar and bistro in April. Now under construction, it will be named Press. It has nothing to do with us media but follows on the hotel’s remodeled rooms. General Manager Mark Hellrung wants it to be a day-and-night social hub with wi-fi.
It looks probable that an Italian food festival with culinary stars and winemakers from Rome, Milan, Florence and Tuscany will be here Columbus Day Weekend.
