Two-time world champion Chris Shivers isn’t going into his retirement quietly. He’s fighting to go out with another win! For the second consecutive night, he thrilled a crowd of nearly 13,000 at the 2012 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals at the Thomas & Mack Center, winning Round 3 atop Shepherd Hills Sod Buster and with $50,000 earned in just the past 48 hours.

Tonight, the hardly-retiring cowboy from Jonesville, La., is riding the rankest and meanest 2007 world champion bull Chicken on a Chain; they’re pitted for the first time. Chris is riding in 3rd place here at the world finals less than 100 points behind Luke Snyder, who remains atop the leader board.

Our thanks to contributing photographer Tom Donoghue, who was at ringside for a third night for all the action of today’s exciting photo gallery.

For the moment, the spotlight is off the two competing Brazilian season leaders: Valdiron de Oliveira, who finished 9th, while defending world champion Silvano Alves finished tied for 10th. Both ride again tonight and twice Sunday to determine the final outcome of that ultimate showdown.

Valdiron gained 18 points in the Built Ford Tough Series standings and trails season leader Silvano by 203.25 points, who at this rate could see a dream coming true of being PBR’s first back-to-back champion.

Looking ahead to tonight, all eyes will be on that first-ever ride for Chris on Chicken on a Chain described as the matchup of the year. It’s the ultimate challenge for the cowboy about to start his retirement after 16 years of competition, but what a way to retire if he conquers this baddest of brutal beasts.

However it goes, we’ll be back with a report, photos and video Sunday and then Monday coverage of the finals, the prestigious buckle presentation and the $1 million check to the new world champion.
