Strip Scribbles: Terry Fator’s new contract extends run at Mirage
It’s not official yet, but I can confirm that entertainer and “America’s Got Talent” champion Terry Fator’s five-year, $100 million contract at the Mirage that began in 2008 has been extended three more years to 2015.
Expect news of his signature on the new mega contract within two weeks. It also will give him an extra night off weekly in order to pursue Hollywood opportunities with a new management team he now has in place.
CHEF, TROP PART WAYS: Culinary shocker! Chef Carla Pellegrino of Bacio at the Tropicana announced Thursday that she is leaving the casino resort to focus on the Meatball Spot, a new restaurant in Town Square in the former space of Nu Sanctuary. Check out my tweets from Thursday night @robin_leach and Editor at Large John Katsilometes’ story posted Thursday night.
NEW ROAD: On Monday to mark the upcoming Guns ’n’ Roses residency, executives of the Hard Rock Hotel join with Clark County officials to rename Paradise Road to Paradise City Road. However, don’t change your GPS because after the group’s run ends Nov. 24, the street signs will be switched back.
SMASH HIT OPENING: Simon Hammerstein’s opening-night industry party at his new theatrical nightspot the Act in the Palazzo was a rip-roaring success. Partygoers raved about the jewel-box opera-house decor and the variety acts corralled by ringmaster Raven O, who went bare-chested the entire time to display his amazing body tattoos.
I learned that the Act was designed by a New York-based construction firm that has launched more than 75 Manhattan nightlife venues, including sister nightspots the Box in London and New York. Hecho Inc. took different directions of inspiration, from Italian opera houses, European cathedrals, New York City’s Grand Central Station Post Office and speakeasies. The project was executed, principal designer John Kole said, as if “we're stitching together institutions architecturally.”
Elements from churches, the Grand Central terminal, antique lighting, 200 paintings and secret society symbolism were expropriated and integrated at Act. The main theater walls extend in a 200-foot mural made from excavated wood from an 1873 prison. The idea is that guests will find new details and experiences upon each visit. The red-carpet VIP opening gala is Saturday at midnight. Tonight, Caesars Palace headliner Sir Elton John has booked the Act for a megastar party celebrating his husband David Furnish’s 50th birthday as part of the birthday bash weekend.
Revelers were knocked out by the female dancer who amazed with four faces -- her own and three others -- placed over body parts for her sexy routine. There was huge applause for the couple who went to bed in one act, but instead of slipping under the sheets performed a torrid sex scene on top of the four-poster’s metal struts. Guests took cell phone photos of the golden statue of transsexual male porn star Buck Angel at the front door.
We’ll have coverage next week of the “bizarre creatures of the night,” the sexiest cocktail servers in town and the party people who wear the most outrageous outfits -- even more outlandish than Halloween costumes.
DAYTIME REVELRY: Season 2 of Ghostbar Dayclub at the Palms opened while I was in New York, so I’ll check it out Saturday as they celebrate the Pinata Massacre for Halloween. Within an hour of opening, the venue hit capacity with 1,000 people partying at full force.
Chef Barry Dakake from nearby N9NE Steakhouse served taste treats from a classic street food cart. Go-go dancers wore tutus parading colorful umbrellas and love birds through the party. Drinking took on a new eccentricity, with groups of five imbibing simultaneous shots zigzag style, plus, the oversized beer bongs from the bar.
PORN STAR TATTOOS: Tattoo titan Mario Barth throws his “Biggest Tattoo Show on Earth” at the Mirage this weekend, and porn princess Joanna Angel will be there to greet fans, sign autographs and show off her own body art. Then she headlines as the featured performer at Sapphire. “Because you know what happens in Vegas … ends up on my blog!” Joanna says.
STRIP COMEDY: Starting Nov. 7, hypnotist and producer Anthony Cools will bring an outrageous new form of standup comedy to the Palms. His Strip Comedy improv will involve audience participation with female scorecards. Similar to strip poker, each round the winning team’s scorekeeper has to discard an item of clothing until we’re down to the legal limit -- and the almost baring all winner is declared. Call it uncensored and undressed comedy!
HOT-ROD RACING: Fans met their favorite NHRA drivers on Fremont Street on Thursday night with a free autograph session that kicked off the weekend Big O Tires National, the next-to-last of the 2012 schedule in four pro divisions: Top Fuel dragster, Top Fuel Fun Car, Pro Stock car and Pro Stock Motorcycle. The charity poker tournament followed at the Stratosphere for Speedway Children’s Charities.
The weekend battle at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Pro Stock crown is between points leader Allen Johnson and Jason Line, just 82 points behind. Jason’s team owner Ken Black lives in Las Vegas.
ELLIE SINGS: When the first night of the 2013 Miss America Pageant preliminaries gets underway at Planet Hollywood on Jan. 8, our 2012 Miss Nevada Outstanding Teen Ellie Smith from Henderson will perform the national anthem. The pageant airs Jan. 12 on ABC.
KIM’S WEDDING: Internet gossip gurus are abuzz that rapper Kanye West is about to pop the question to reality TV star Kim Kardashian. They say the couple plan to spend as much as $20 million on the wedding, and they reportedly have placed a $6 million offer to our Caesars Palace resident star Celine Dion to sing at the wedding party. Don’t think that’s going to happen!
Caesars Palace headliner-to-be Shania Twain watched Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystere” at Treasure Island on Wednesday night. Shania arrived with husband Frederic, their children and friends and promptly asked for her favorite Las Vegas “dinner” -- popcorn and champagne!
It’s a two-day opening of the watch boutique Chopard at the Wynn with Caesars headliner Sir Elton John cutting the red ribbon Sunday. The new “La Vie en Rose” collection will be unveiled at an exclusive Saturday dinner.
OUR CONDOLENCES: There’s sadness at Cirque du Soleil over the sudden loss of talented artist François Dupuis, who joined Guy Laliberte’s troupe for the Japanese tour of “Fascination” in 1992. Francois then originated the role of “Le Bebe” in the creation of “Mystere” in 1993, and he’s delighted audiences night after night for the past 19 years at our Treasure Island. Our condolences to his four children and his “Mystere” family. Francois was 59.
