The newly transformed D Las Vegas celebrated is official grand opening Wednesday night with an A for awesome, a B for brilliant and a C for creative. And now we know the D is the nickname for owner Derek Stevens and his hometown of Detroit.

That also explains the American Coney Island Chili Dogs that everybody raved about, their first time outside Motor City. Contributing photographer Tom Donoghue was on hand for the festivities; be sure to read all about the new-look property once known as Fitzgerald’s in the interview we posted Wednesday with Derek about the Dramatic, Different and Daring new look.

Showgirls and a Dream team of Dancing Dealers surrounded Mayor Carolyn Goodman and her husband, former Mayor Oscar Goodman, now serving as the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Host Committee chairman. Prince impersonator Jason Tenner, whose show is at the D, entertained.

The D’s renovation follows a transformation of the Golden Gate celebrated last month, which also is owned by Derek. The new-look casinos are bringing extra sparkle to formerly downtrodden downtown with facelifts at the Plaza, El Cortez, Golden Gate and now the D.

Derek told Vegas DeLuxe: “The D embraces the energy of new downtown Las Vegas. We’re incredibly excited to be part of a new era in downtown Las Vegas. The D’s renovations reflect the high energy and friendly atmosphere of Fremont Street.”

Festivities will continue for a week ,with Poison lead singer Bret Michaels in a free Fremont Street concert on Saturday night, and then another one by OneRepublic on Saturday, Oct. 20. It’s a beautiful day in the D’s Downtown neighborhood!
