N.Y.-N.Y.’s ‘Shades of Temptation’ includes ‘Crazy Horse Paris’ dancers

"Fifty Shades of Grey" by E.L. James.

It’s the book of erotica, bondage and sex fantasy adventures that’s become a mainstream bestseller. Now “Fifty Shades of Grey” from British author E.L. James has become the inspiration for British producer David King’s sassy new show opening next week at New York-New York in head-to-head competition with Cirque du Soleil’s racy, nearly decade-old “Zumanity” just steps away.

“ ‘Shades of Temptation’ will be a smoldering European adult show inspired by the book and playing out the wildest fantasies of everything from ropes, bondage and schoolgirls,” David told me. “ ‘Peepshow’ and ‘Fantasy’ are great shows, but they have all been following the same formula in Vegas for the past 25 years.

“I’m taking it to a different level that’s very sexual and very sensual. We’re not just a T&A show. This is an erotic experience inside your fantasies that pushes all the boundaries. It is very, very erotic. I promise you there has been nothing like it in Vegas ever before.”

The production follows a similar, yearlong cabaret club run at Monte Carlo, and to keep its edgy European feel, David has scooped up five of the “Crazy Horse Paris” showgirls who decided to stay here as their show closed Monday across the Strip at MGM Grand.

“The French girls jumped at the opportunity to really let their hair down. They love that there’s lots of action. It’s very adult and very sensual, and they love that,” David said.

His 10-cast show debuting Tuesday with a soft opening features seven female fatales (including the five from “CHP”) and two handsome hunks to interact with the dancers. David Hernandez, a finalist on Season 7 of “American Idol,” has signed on as the singing host.

David King produces two other shows at New York-New York (“Spirit of the Dance and “Dancing Queen”), and this third 70-minute production will start 30 minutes after the 10 p.m. “Zumanity” show.

“The hotel wanted our ‘Shades of Temptation.’ It is ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ acted out onstage, so way different than the Cirque show down the hallway,” David explained. “By moving our start times, we avoid a same-time ticketholder crush.

“We know from Monte Carlo this is a show for the guys, but more interesting we know women revel in the sexual antics and bedroom communication from the book. Our show is the primer before they go home or back up to their suite.”
