No sooner do the 2012 NASCAR Champion’s Week racetrack stars leave their tire marks on the Strip than another set of slower speedsters race into town.

It’s a keep-fit weekend in Las Vegas with the arrival of hundreds of runners for two major events. First up Saturday morning is the Great Santa Run to benefit our beloved Opportunity Village, and that starts at Town Square. Then on Sunday, the new night run of the Zappos.com Rock N’ Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon.

Also racing over the finish line of rehearsals to begin her two-year run at Caesars Palace is superstar Shania Twain on Saturday night. When she officially arrived on the Strip two weeks ago, she roared in on a horse, which will be one of two featured in her show “Still the One.”

Director Raj Kapoor tells me that Shania’s Marc Bouwer gowns onstage will be the most sensational and glamorous ever seen on a Las Vegas stage. “We have many surprises to unveil, but everybody is going to be amazed by the cutting-edge video technology never seen before. The video mapping lets us create amazing onstage effects.

“Most important, though, of course, is Shania herself. She is the star. Her voice is magnificent, and it’s the story of her life through her hits. She looks and sounds the very best. We are very happy about what we have created.”

It’s time now for us to get to the starting line with this week’s Royal Robin Rundown and race as fast as we can into the highlights of a high-speed weekend in the Entertainment Capital of the World:

'Priscilla' and 500 drag queen costumes bus across the desert for nine-week run at the Venetian

June 18, 2013 • 1:38 p.m.

The journey on Interstate 15 across the desert from Los Angeles to Las Vegas for the "Priscilla" musical touring company is as incredible an undertaking as the Australian outback drag-queen scripted adventure itself. The big, glitzy, colorful theatrical production complete with an on-stage cutaway bus takes nine trucks to transport — two of which are just for the wardrobe costumes and hair pieces! Cast and crew arrived Monday, and Tuesday morning, “Priscilla School” opened to teach hired Las Vegas locals how best to help the cast fast-change in and out of the myriad of outrageous outfits. "Priscilla Queen of the Desert — The Musical" opens for a one-night preview Tuesday night, and the full run premieres on Thursday at the Venetian.
