Guns N’ Roses guitarist DJ Ashba celebrated his 40th birthday Saturday night before taking the stage at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel, where the band has a mini-residency, “Appetite for Democracy,” through Nov. 24, and contributing photographer Scott Harrison was onsite for a photo gallery.
The Hard Rock and AEG Live presented Ashba with a custom-made, three-tiered cake featuring a rocker top hat (Ashba’s signature), guitars and roses. Band members Frank Ferrer (drums), Chris Pitman (keyboardist), Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (guitar), Dizzy Reed (keyboardist) and Tommy Stinson (bass) were on hand for the presentation. (Hmmm … who is missing here?)
Ashba’s milestone birthday weekend also included Cirque du Soleil’s “Zarkana” at Aria on Friday night. The remaining GNR dates of “Democracy,” which spans debut album “Appetite for Destruction” (1987) through “Chinese Democracy” (2008), are Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday and Nov. 21, 23 and 24.
