Photos: Halloween a night of firsts in Entertainment Capital of the World
Editor’s Note: Please check back today and Friday for our 2012 Halloween coverage -- reports and photo galleries!
Halloween 2012 was a night of firsts on and off the Strip in Las Vegas:
* There was the premiere of the Guns N’ Roses mini-residency at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel.
* There was the debut industry night at the unveiling of Bagatelle Supper Club at the Tropicana.
* And there was Eli Roth’s first Day of the Dead trick-or-treat in his new year-round Strip attraction Goretorium that included the world premiere of his new Snoop Dogg video.
Rebel rocker Axl Rose led GNR onstage for their “Appetite for Democracy” concert, and guitarist DJ Ashba had a painted face under his hat to mark the night of goblins, ghosts and ghouls.
Contributing photographer Erik Kabik was at the Joint for the first of the band’s 12 mind-blowing shows running through Nov. 24. Las Vegas will never be the same as they belt out their biggest raw and gritty hits from their 1985 debut to now. The history-making residency coincides with “Appetite for Destruction’s” 25th anniversary, and producers AEG Live say it’s unlike any show the band has ever done or will ever do.
There were so many masked blonde and brunette bombshells wearing lingerie at the opening industry party of Bagatelle Supper Club alongside the Tropicana that it was impossible to tell if Victoria’s Secret supermodel Selita Ebanks ever showed up. Beauties in their bedroom burlesque for the “Night of Masks” outnumbered her.
But that was definitely heartthrob actor Dylan McDermott of “American Horror Story” behind his mask. Our thanks to contributing photographer Carlos Larios for his photo gallery. Also partying at full force was DJ Mitch L.J. and dance pop star Ultra Nate. The singer-songwriter stood on the club’s side railing to perform her dance hits as a champagne angel sped slowly around the club ceiling track on a swing throwing confetti.
Owner Jonathan Segal told me as he pointed to the massive $185,000 chandelier above the dance floor: “We will never take life seriously in this club, but we’re really serious about having the best nightclub experience in Las Vegas. This goes beyond our L.A., New York and London clubs.”
Senior Editor Don Chareunsy and I spotted Vin Armani of Showtime’s “Gigolos” in a plaid hoodie, Playboy centerfold Tishara Cousino, Tropicana headliner magician Murray Sawchuck and wife and “Fantasy” star Chloe Crawford, Chippendales at the Rio stud and current “The Amazing Race” contestant Jaymes Vaughan, gorgeous dancer Tara Palsha and dress designer Stacey Lee in the great-looking crowd.
The new nightclub was pronounced a hit with its dining and beach concept. I was reminded of the long-ago, super-successful Manhattan supper clubs with live bands before there was disco. This was an extraordinary party within dinner that felt like their sister restaurant STK at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas -- except on steroids!
The official gala grand opening is set for Nov. 16, and in between there will be private parties and “friends and family” events. The beach club will be open for dinner and parties through winter -- weather permitting thanks to heaters.
Horror honcho Eli Roth had a wax figure of Snoop Dogg from Madame Tussauds at his Halloween party in Goretorium for the world premiere of the rapper’s new video “La La La” that Eli directed. The movie clip went up on the big Strip screens.
Eli also celebrated fright night at the All Hallow’s party at Hyde Bellagio, which his crew had transformed into a sexy and scary haunted mansion for the music beats of the EC Twins. His Goretorium actors dressed in demonic costumes filled the hotspot. Eli dressed in his own ghoulish ensemble to pose for photographs in front of the Bellagio Fountains with the ghastly Goretorium characters.
There’s no doubt that Halloween costumes got shorter and sexier this year; nothing is now left to the imagination. A couple of my favorites at Bagatelle included the “trophy wife” who wore nothing but her bra, garter belt and fishnets -- and nearby the only President Barack Obama impersonator I spotted all week long. Or was it? Hmmm ... he is scheduled here today for another visit.
