Hey, baby, she’s forever your (birthday) girl.
Singer and TV judge Paula Abdul (“American Idol,” “The X Factor”) celebrated her 50th birthday and also the birthday of boyfriend John Caprio with family and friends at Tao in the Venetian on Thursday night.
Abdul arrived with her man and parents, “Extra” anchor Terri Seymour (Simon Cowell’s ex … hmmm …) and 30 guests and took over an area on the second floor overlooking the larger-than-life Buddha. The birthday group dined on sushi platters and signature dishes.
After dinner, Abdul et al made their way to the nightclub’s VIP skyboxes in the main room. The club surprised her with a huge birthday presentation, as a blaze of flashlights started at one corner of the room and made its way to her with a three-tiered cake. Simultaneously, DJ D Miles let partygoers know that Abdul was in the house for her birthday as her music videos flashed on the LED screen, and D Miles dropped her classic “Straight Up.”
Clubgoers started cheering and were soon singing along to the classic jam (“Am I caught in a hit-and-run?”). Paula stood up and waved to the crowd and was thrilled at the spectacle, hugging Caprio as the cake arrived inscribed with “Happy Birthday, Paula and John.”
Also at Tao’s Worship Thursday: Steven Gerrard, captain of Liverpool’s Premier League club and the England national football team. The soccer star, who was celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday, graciously posed for photographs with fans. Thanks to Al Powers of Powers Imagery for his photo of the birthday girl at Tao.
Before the celebration at Tao, Abdul started her birthday festivities at Azure Luxury Pool at sister property Palazzo on Thursday. Abdul, Caprio and a few dozen of their friends spent the day soaking up the sun. Abdul chatted with guests about what it is like to turn 50.

Abdul’s birthday celebration continued Friday night with a large group dinner at chef Scott Conant’s Scarpetta in the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Accompanied by Seymor, Abdul also was presented with a birthday cake at Planet Hollywood.
