Strip Scribbles: MSNBC bets on Bettie Page; Haze hostess on ‘The Choice’
The sexy, 1950s-styled pinup Bettie Page Clothing is about to share its Las Vegas success story. The growing and profitable retailer that started with one store in Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops has become a fashion phenomenon thanks to owners Jan Glaser and Russian-born designer Tatyana Khomyakova.
2011 Playmate of the Year Claire Sinclair has been the face of the clothing line that began in 2006. Now there are two Las Vegas boutiques, plus others in San Diego, San Francisco, Hollywood, Santa Barbara, Salt Lake City and Minneapolis, with more locations to open this year in Philadelphia, Key West and Nashville. MSNBC is featuring Bettie Page with “Betting on Bettie.”
Its retail sales have increased 55 percent for the first five months of this year and last year posted more than $8 million in revenue. Now it’s about to go public. Air Scooter Corp. has signed a letter of intent to merge into Bettie Page Clothing as the successor corporation in a deal that will see Bettie Page owners controlling more than 84 percent. At that point, Bettie is public, and you can invest in her seamed stockings, lusty lingerie and pinup apparel.
CELEBS CHASE L.V. GIRLS: For the second consecutive week, a Las Vegas beauty will appear on the new Fox dating show “The Choice.” Last week, Hard Rock Hotel resident DJ Pauly D of “Jersey Shore” was among the celebrities who chased after a stunning 6-foot Las Vegas model, and Thursday night, pop star Joe Jonas is in the revolving chair looking at sexy Haze cocktail hostess and Playboy beauty Shannon Kelly.
The part-time actress and model moved here six years ago from Pennsylvania on her 21st birthday to land a modeling career and complete her Bachelor’s in communication at UNLV. “I wanted to make lots of money, travel the world and then settle in New York City, and I’ve fulfilled all but one of those goals already,” Shannon told me.
“I heard about the auditions for the show, and they came to Haze looking for contestants,” she said. “Everyone pointed at me. As soon as they said celebrity dating show, I knew it was right up my alley.” Shannon is sworn to secrecy as to the outcome. Does she land a date with a star? Tune in.
