Judges selected Randi Sundquist, a UNLV student who is a former Miss Greater Las Vegas pageant queen, tonight as Miss Nevada 2012. The 22-year-old Elko native will represent the Silver State on Jan. 12 at the 2013 Miss America Pageant at Planet Hollywood and airing on ABC.
Randi won the state competition against 11 hopefuls at the Casablanca casino resort in Mesquite. It was her second attempt at the title; last year, she was third runner-up to Alana Lee, who as Miss Nevada 2011 presented the crown to Randi. Her platform is working to eradicate bullying.
Fifteen-year-old Las Vegas singing phenomenon Ellie Smith was named Miss Nevada’s Outstanding Teen in a field of 16 contestants, and she, too, has an anti-bullying platform. She has been recognized with numerous awards for her philanthropic work in her hometown of Henderson.
Ellie was named one of the Ten Outstanding Women in the community and also received the Youth in Philanthropy Award. She has taken her anti-bullying campaign to YouTube.
