Country superstar Shania Twain is in Las Vegas plotting the early stages of her residency starting Dec. 1 at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace. She’s here from her Bahamas home with husband Frederic Thiebaud.
Shania confirmed that she’s looking for a house while she’s performing here and has been in production meetings at the Colosseum with her producing partners at AEG/Concerts West. I’m told that she’s toured the theater and walked and danced across its stage. My exclusive interview with Shania when she officially announced the Las Vegas run was posted last June.
While in town, she’s watched two Cirque du Soleil shows. First, it was the “Beatles Love” at the Mirage and then “Ka” at MGM Grand on Tuesday night. Frederic and she enjoyed popcorn, champagne and Fiji water. “That’s a healthy dinner in Las Vegas,” she laughed.

ALI TRIBUTE TELECAST: The times have changed for Saturday’s ABC and ESPN 2 broadcasts of this past weekend’s Keep Memory Alive “Power of Love Gala” tribute to Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday at MGM Grand Garden Arena. The ABC telecast is now at 4 p.m. and ESPN 2’s at 10 p.m.
SPRING BREAK DESTINATION: Our city stands as the leader of the Top 10 cities for Spring Break parties. In Co-Ed Magazine’s rundown of the 10 best spots in America for wild parties, we come in at #1, followed by Key West, South Padre Island, Daytona Beach, Myrtle Beach, Miami Beach, Panama City Beach, Fort Myers, Lake Havasu and San Diego. The “trashiest ranking” took into account liquor stores, tattoo parlors, strip clubs and Hooters franchises.
Las Vegas was described as the “home of everything you can buy with money.” The Palms again plays host to MTV’s Spring Break and starts March 19 with a casting party followed by three days and nights of events.
ABRACADABRA: Las Vegas truly is the home of worldwide magic. In addition to our resident superstars Criss Angel, David Copperfield and the Amazing Johnathan, we’re home to many others. Plus, four magic shows have just opened, with the youngest headliner, Tommy Wind 21, at the Clarion, Mike Turco at Saxe Theater in Planet Hollywood, Julianna Chen at Plaza and Seth Grabel from “America’s Got Talent” at Royal Resort.
My pal Stan Allen, who publishes Magic magazine here, told me that three other Las Vegas magicians, Kevin James, Jeff Hobson and Diomare, are starring in “The Illusionists,” a league of extraordinary gentlemen magic show, in Australia with hopes that it will land on the Strip. The March cover story of Magic features comedy magician Fielding West, another resident, and how he always got the last laugh from audiences with his 600-pound, man-eating Bengal tiger trick.
NOW THE VIDEO: Stunning 19-year-old Kate Upton wowed and dazzled Las Vegas while partying here last week for the launch celebrations of her new 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover. We simply can’t get enough of her, especially now that she’s flown back to New York. Fortunately, S.I. execs on Tuesday released behind-the-scenes video footage of her steamy shoot in Australia:

UPCOMING DATES: Bobby Brown, ex-husband of the late Whitney Houston, performs at Planet Hollywood on June 16 with New Edition. Season 5 of Wet Republic at MGM Grand begins March 9 with reality TV starlet Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett, Sky Blu of LMFAO and DJ Bob Sinclar. Sexy, saucy and sassy Dita Von Teese launches her cross-country Strip Strip Hooray striptease show tour here and promises the Las Vegas dates later this week.
Superstar Liza Minnelli returns to LVH (formerly Las Vegas Hilton) for one night only May 12. Former “Bold & the Beautiful” star Jeff Trachta, who wowed Liza’s audiences with his incredible impressions, gets a four-night headline run for the first time at the Pearl in the Palms starting May 17.
And the relaunch of the Mob Attraction at the Tropicana is set for March 1 with all-new, upgraded and enhanced audiovisual equipment for the interactive portion of the entertainment museum attraction.
TONIGHT’S TIPS

Lustkillers from San Francisco perform punk rock at the downtown Griffin. DJ duo Lazrtag are at Snitch at Ghostbar in the Palms. And DJ Penguin Prison is at Savile Row.
TOMORROW’S TEASE: It’s big news from guitar guru Carlos Santana, our sit-down with rocker Sammy Hagar, who reveals the secrets as to why he never went off the rails, and James Bond bad boy Robert Davi readies for his run of Frank Sinatra tribute shows at the Venetian. Plus, “The Bachelor” and “Dancing with the Stars” star Jake Pavelka answers the question, “ Boxers or briefs (or boxer briefs)?” Jake is getting ready with his roses for a monthlong run hosting Chippendales at the Rio.
