If you think every star under the sun will be at boxing legend Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday salute, think again. It might seem that way, and a check of the list literally proves it. But the entire Strip is jumping with stars on this final weekend of the Motley Crue mini-residency at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel.
MTV Networks’ Alex Coletti (remember Britney Spears with the yellow python and her kiss with Madonna?) is the director for the ABC and ESPN 2 coverage of the Keep Memory Alive gala fundraiser with Ali at MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night.
Grammy Award winner Lenny Kravitz has lent his Black and White America Tour stage to the production, which will feature everybody from Stevie Wonder singing “Happy Birthday” to Diddy, Kelly Rowland and Quincy Jones. Expect to see Siegfried Fischbacher honored as the first Caretaker of the Year at the Power of Love event.
The spotlight won’t only shine on Ali and the dozen-plus, big-name boxing stars turning out to support him, but also on LL Cool J and Kravitz, who will follow up the Ali benefit with a second Keep Memory Alive fundraiser concert at MGM on Sunday night.
There are only three shows remaining -- tonight, Saturday and Sunday -- in the first hard-rock residency for Motley Crue. Contributing photographer Erik Kabik returned to shoot more photos at Wednesday’s show that capture the scale and spectacle of the explosive show.
Call it the weekend of a plethora of performers with everybody from country star Mickey Gilley at Treasure Island to Trey Songz at the Palms to DJ Pauly D’s residency debut at Vanity in the Hard Rock Hotel. The list is seemingly endless, but we’ve put it all together in one neatly tied-up package that we call the Royal Robin Rundown:
