Photos: Aerosmith and Cheap Trick rock MGM Grand Garden Arena
By Don Chareunsy
Rock legends Aerosmith -- with singer Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry front and center in the spotlight -- and opening act Cheap Trick rocked MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night, and contributing photographer Tom Donoghue was onsite for an assignment and a photo gallery that he called one of his absolute favorites in his more-than-40-year career.
The tour set list for the Entertainment Capital of the World on Saturday night: “Mama Kin,” “Love in an Elevator,” “Jaded,” “Oh Yeah,” “Livin’ on the Edge,” “Movin’ Out,” “Walking’ the Dog,” “Last Child,” “Rag Doll,” “Lover a Lot,” “What It Takes,” “No More, No More,” “Come Together, “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” and “Walk This Way.” The encore: “Dream On” and “Sweet Emotion.”
No “Angel,” “Janie’s Got a Gun,” “Pink” (it’s my favorite color) or the band’s sole No. 1, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from “Armageddon.” Aerosmith was in town recently for the 2012 iHeart Radio Music Festival, also at MGM Grand.
While Tyler was in town for the “Global Warming Tour” stop, he took his son and friends to Cirque du Soleil’s “Love,” his fourth time watching the Beatles spectacular at the Mirage, after dining at nearby Stack and before partying, like the rock star that he is, at 1 OAK.
Think Nicki Minaj was secretly in the audience? Probably about as likely as Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez reuniting.
