Thunder From Down Under toasts 10 years of taking it off at Excalibur
While Robin Leach takes his traditional summer vacation in sunny San Diego and La Jolla, many of our Strip and Las Vegas personalities have stepped forward in his absence to pen their own words of wisdom. Our thanks to them all. We continue today with the bare-chested beefcake who love the ladies at Thunder From Down Under in Excalibur.
By Thunder From Down Under
The hit film “Magic Mike” starring Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey is shining the spotlight on the adult male revue industry internationally, so we are very proud that Warner Bros. chose us to be involved in the screenings in Las Vegas and Phoenix and partner with them in a nationwide contest where two people in each market can win a trip to Las Vegas to see Thunder as our special guests and enjoy two nights at Excalibur, plus dinner courtesy of the hotel.
As with many artistic enterprises, there is poetic license in portraying the lives and antics of film characters, which makes for enjoyable movie watching but doesn’t necessarily deliver an accurate picture of how Thunder operates since we are a headliner production on the Strip and not at “hot seat” clubs.
We pride ourselves in supplying a great time for women who want to go out, have a good time and let their hair down and feel empowered at a great, safe place for them to let loose. Apparently, we have the right formula, as Thunder celebrated its 10th year at Excalibur on July 5, and Renee West, president and COO of Excalibur, surprised everyone by presenting a fabulous cake onstage that night to celebrate the auspicious occasion.
New is a key word, too. A riveting new opening, new routines, new cast members and new costumes, lighting and music keep the show fresh, which is the goal of Adam Steck, CEO of SPI Entertainment and producer of the show, and Aussie businessman, Thunder founder and co-owner Billy Cross.
Steck recalls that it was in 2002 that Excalibur management and he took the bold step of booking a male revue into what was then perceived as a family hotel. It turned out to be a brilliant move for both. He also pointed out that Thunder is the No. 1choice among male revues for bachelorette parties, and Thunder happily has provided memorable moments for thousands of brides-to-be and their wedding parties.
The sizzling, hot men of Thunder have charmed grandmothers, mothers and daughters, and many of our guests visit time and again to see the show. We also have a touring company that travels the world and will be performing in Mexico this August, as well as traveling to cities in the Midwest, East Coast, Asia, Europe and Canada and of course San Francisco, San Diego and L.A. So even if you can’t get to Las Vegas to see our show, you can catch us on the road.
Most recently, we were seen on “The Insider” with Heidi Klum and on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in a bit with comic Kevin Nealon. You may have seen us on “Regis and Kelly,” “Access Hollywood” and the Academy of Country Music Awards, and we are returning to Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva.”
Additionally, Thunder has made three appearances on “Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels,” “The Wayne Brady Show,” NBC’s “Today” and more. Other great news for our fans is that our 2013 calendar will be available during the next few weeks; you can get them at our merchandise shop adjacent to the showroom or online at ThunderFromDownUnder.com.
We are pleased to say that AOL City Guide has named Thunder “Best Adult Male Revue,” and a 2011 Las Vegas reader poll named Thunder “Best Male Revue.” It’s something we are proud of, and we continue to strive to deliver the best product possible. Everyone connected with Thunder is thrilled at the success and recognition we have achieved through the years.
We also thank our legion of loyal fans who support us here and throughout the world; Renee West; Brad Goldberg, Excalibur vice president of marketing; Jean George, Excalibur vice president of special events and public relations; and the entire Excalibur team for being so supportive during our wonderful 10 years at the hotel.
Our thanks to the Thunder From Down Under hunks who make us want to visit the gym more often! Be sure to check out our other guest column today from rock pop artist Michael Godard, and join us Thursday when our guest columnists are entertainer Louis Prima Jr. and the head honcho of Sky Combat Ace.
