Photos: Nikki Beach, Club Nikki open with VIP White Party at Tropicana
The veteran king of international jet-set nightlife is about to show the new kids on the block how to really party! Tonight, with its signature White Party Grand Opening at the renovated Tropicana, Club Nikki and Nikki Beach will set new standards of dayclub and nightlife in The Entertainment and Nightclub Capital of the World.
The eagerly awaited and highly anticipated five-day opening festivities features internationally recognized DJs including Robbie Rivera, JoJo Florez and Behrouz and the launch of the Nikki Music CD on the house label Defected Records. The bejeweled and feathered Champagne Muse who flies in on a trapeze to deliver bottles of bubbly might become the winning attraction. It truly is a lifestyle like no other, and who would know best aside from yours truly?
In my younger years, I was a regular at Nikki Beach in St. Tropez and Marbella, when my travels took me to the jet-set playgrounds of the South of France and Spain. The far-flung Club Nikki party experience with resorts and spas expanded to Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Mexico and now -- finally -- Las Vegas.
Jack Penrod is the owner and founder, and at a recent Rancho Mirage, Calif., charity benefit I emceed, I talked with his wife Lucia about how the tragic car crash involving a drunken driver caused their daughter Nicole’s death. It led them to rename their original beach club in Miami after her, and that started their growth as a global phenomenon.
Nikki Beach, complete with a massive, free-flowing waterfall, is a 15,000-square-foot sexy playpen with its own entrance and valet parking at the made-over Tropicana. Rather than celebrity hosts, it will focus on its traditional high-production-value parties prevalent in South Beach.
Las Vegas Weekly Editor and colleague Sarah Feldberg took an advance tour of the property and said, “Ground zero for the revived vibe of the Tropicana is Nikki Beach.” Her story details the scents of coconut sunscreen that waft through the all-white linen experience with the trademark teepee tikis and the sprawling four-poster natural wood Opium beds raised on stilts.
Tom Donoghue and Las Vegas Sun photographer Christopher DeVargas also received sneak preview tours and shot photo galleries. We’ll be on the VIP white carpet tonight and at the celebrity party, and we’ll have that report right here at Vegas DeLuxe tomorrow as I play catch-up with the Penrod family.
