Celebrity preview: Kendra vs. Holly; Sir Paul at MGM; comedy kings

Blond bombshells Holly Madison and Kendra Wilkinson Baskett are best buddies from their E! Entertainment reality TV series The Girls Next Door, as Hugh Hefner’s former girlfriends, and its offshoots Kendra and Holly’s World. But this weekend, they are (playfully) competing with each other for the spotlight with parties that’ll have photographers racing across town to get shots of both beauties.

The Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney flew in Wednesday on a three-day whirlwind visit that began with the fifth-anniversary celebrations of The Beatles Love by Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage -- our coverage included incredible photographs from the star-studded red carpet. Last night, Sir Paul performed a private concert for a computer convention here, and tonight he wraps up his visit with a highly anticipated concert at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

It’s a busy weekend of continuing 2011 World Series of Poker play at the Rio, plus a marvelous mix of music, comedy and those now seemingly never-ending weekend celebrity parties -- and there’s also quarter-century CNN veteran Larry King trading his talk show host chair to perform stand-up and storytelling from his amazing life experiences.

*In advance of his wedding, Beatle baron Sir Paul McCartney takes center stage at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Stephen Marley performs poolside at the Hard Rock Hotel to launch the Soundwaves concert series. O.A.R. continues the $30 ticket Revolution concert series at Red Rock Resort. Country singer T.G. Sheppard is at Boulder Station. Mocca is at Cannery. Hal Savar performs acoustic soul at the Palms, and hit country songwriters Danny Myrick and Kendell Marvel host Nashville Unplugged at Green Valley Ranch.

*Comedy is king with Jay Leno at Terry Fator’s theater in the Mirage, Bill Engvall at Treasure Island, Rich Little at the Riviera all weekend, Pauly Shore at South Point for three nights and Bonkerz All Stars at Louie Anderson’s theater in Palace Station for three nights. Boxing legend Joe Frazier performs stand-up in Harmik as Tom Jones at the Las Vegas Hilton.

*Tickets go on sale for the Oct. 14 Orleans Arena performance of The Lord of the Rings in Concert: Fellowship of the Ring with more than 200 musicians, and Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame salute is at Orleans, too.

*Thomas the Tank Engine leads his engine friends on a 90-minute children’s musical journey at Orleans Arena for two days, and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West returns to Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Two Las Vegas drivers, Dylan Kwasniewski and Spencer Gallagher, are in the hunt.

Peepshow headliner Holly Madison is on double duty promoting her new Las Vegas-themed book The Showgirl Next Door at Sugar Factory American Brasserie and then returning after dark (and after her Planet Hollywood show) to Gallery, while Kendra Wilkinson Baskett celebrates her 26th birthday by day at Venus Pool Club at Caesars Palace and then by night at the casino resort’s Pure. Incidentally, my loyal assistant Carla Marrow was tapped to make Kendra’s incredible birthday cake -- wait until you see the photos! Who knew my budding journalist would also wind up as a much-in-demand pastry chef?!

*It’s a Sunday concert on the beach with Wisin y Yandel at Mandalay Bay Beach Club. Airborne Toxic Event raises the roof at House of Blues.

*Please support Vegas DeLuxe’s good friend Jeff Leibow, who stars in the hit Jersey Boys at the Palazzo. He is producing the NF Hope Concert at the Hilton to support families coping with neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder of the nervous system that’s affected his recently diagnosed 1-year-old daughter Emma. Hometown heroes including Rich Little, Gordie Brown, Human Nature and casts of Jersey Boys, Phantom -- the Las Vegas Spectacular and The Lion King are entertaining supporters of the cause.
