The annual Sexiest Man Alive edition of People magazine attracts nearly the same level of excitement as its sister publication Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit edition, and in just a few hours, even before the issue goes on sale Friday, we’re about to discover this year’s winner.
Insiders are predicting that the award will go to actor Ryan Reynolds, a 34-year-old Canadian who is married to sexy actress Scarlett Johansson. Ryan stars as the title superhero in Green Lantern scheduled for release next year.
Reality star Kim Kardashian, who is hosting New Year’s Eve at Tao in The Venetian, hosts tonight’s ABC special showing what goes into the making of People’s now iconic franchise. Kim presents the one-hour program to mark 25 Years of Sexy and goes behind the scenes to reveal for the first time how the magazine’s editors work through the selection process.
Hugh Jackman, who was voted 2008 Sexiest Man Alive, chats with Kim about the effect the title had on his career and the teasing that Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and George Clooney inflicted on one another when they landed the title. Lisa Rinna joins Kim to talk about her husband Harry Hamlin, who was named 1987’s Sexiest Man Alive, and Lisa Niemi, widow of Patrick Swayze, confides what the 1991 title meant to her late husband.
The network special also has photo shoot footage and interviews of those included in this year’s issue, plus the first exclusive on-camera interview with the 2010 Sexiest Man Alive as he is revealed. The special People edition hits newsstands this Friday.
25 Sexiest Men
Las Vegas has another connection with tonight’s TV special: hometown hero Andre Agassi, as part of People’s 25 Sexiest Men charity auction, is auctioning a 2011 Grand Slam Gala experience. Online bidding starts today at $5,000 and ends Dec. 15. Other celebrity men, including Hugh, Mark Ruffalo and newly engaged Prince William, are participating in this auction, along with Usher and Michael Phelps, both of whom have been in town in recent weeks.
Andre’s auction package includes two invitations to the 2011 Grand Slam for Children art unveiling and the gala, plus a meet-and-greet with the tennis champion and his wife, Steffi Graf, and a hotel stay during their Las Vegas visit next fall. For more information, go to CharityBuzz.com.
