It’s one of the top three conventions that convene in Las Vegas each year, and many of the more than 100,000 delegates started arriving yesterday for today’s kickoff of the 30th show of the Specialty Equipment Market Association, or SEMA.
SEMA is the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world, drawing the industry’s brightest minds and hottest products to the Las Vegas Convention Center. SEMA attracts more than 100,000 industry leaders from more than 100 countries for opportunities in the automotive, truck, SUV and RV markets.
The displays are showcased in 12 sections, and a New Products Showcase features nearly 1,500 newly introduced parts, tools and components. Additionally, SEMA provides attendees with seminars, product demonstrations, special events, networking opportunities and more. SEMA continues tomorrow though Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Vehicles become the stars of SEMA each year, along with the celebrity auto buffs among the conventioneers, and to celebrate the standouts, officials are announcing three SEMA Awards this year: Hottest Car, Hottest Truck and Hottest 4x4-SUV for the first time.
In addition to the Mustangs and F-150s that Ford will be debuting at SEMA this year, the Ford Police Interceptor Stealth concept will be on display. Ford designer Melvin Betancourt took inspiration from the SR-71 stealth airplane used in the 1950s and 1960s to create the Taurus-based Police Interceptor.
