Iron Man 2 is being hailed as the first big box-office blockbuster of summer -- experts are predicting that it could break The Dark Knight’s opening-weekend record of $158.4 million, and Iron Man creator and comic book legend Stan Lee is being honored with three days of festivities at the Palms starting tonight.

“He is an entertainment icon,” cinema owner Johnny Brenden said. “We will present him with his own Brenden Celebrity Star. He is the legend when it comes to comics and comic book heroes.”

Stan’s star will be placed alongside recipients including Michael Jackson, Sylvester Stallone, Hugh Hefner, Dennis Hopper, Shaquille O’Neal, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kid Rock and even yours truly!

For 70 years, Stan has made his mark on pop culture with the creation and evolution of hundreds of comic book characters including Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Fantastic Four, X-Men and Iron Man, plus new superheroes through his POW Entertainment. (POW stands for Purveyors of Wonder, for those who are curious).

Tonight, in between Vegas Uncork’d events, I’ll introduce Stan to the VIP audience at the premiere of Iron Man 2 at Brenden Movie Theaters in the Palms and will moderate the Q&A with Stan. Then up at Moon is the official Iron Man 2 launch party. Here’s the trailer on YouTube:

It’s a full Stan Lee tribute weekend because on Saturday, I’ll emcee the reception and dinner hosted by Walt Disney Studios and featuring Stan’s Time Jumper, along with preview clips of With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story.

Stars from Stan’s films and creations have been invited to attend. There’ll be an exhibit of Marvel Comics memorabilia valued at more than $1 million assembled by Comic Link and Desert Wind Comics. The highest-graded original cell from Tales of Suspense #29 with the debut of Iron Man will be on display.
