Strip Scribbles: Nicky Hilton, David Katzenberg celebrate series at Lavo

It will probably set off a firestorm of controversy, and it will probably make headlines for MTV after its debut Sunday. It’s certainly going to be the subject of water-cooler conversation Monday morning. Socialite Nicky Hilton’s longtime boyfriend David Katzenberg is the mastermind of The Hard Times of R.J. Berger, and he’s bringing the cast to Las Vegas to party.

The teen comedy is new territory for MTV and tackles a sensitive subject not even depicted in the American Pie films -- a geeky teen with a large male body part. I hope I’ve put that as tactfully as I can! The cast of the new series, including Paul Iacono, Jareb Dauplaise, Kara Taitz, Amber Lancaster and Jayson Blair, along with David and Nicky, celebrate with a red carpet party at Lavo in the Palazzo tonight.

Tomorrow night, the hotel heiress and fashion designer is the headline attraction at Pure in Caesars Palace. We might even find big sister Paris Hilton back from her Brazil video shoot to support Nicky and her beau.

*A treasure trove of newly discovered recordings of Strip stars who played the New Latin Quarter Club in Tokyo from 1959 through 1989 is being released. There are hundreds of hours of tapes of entertainment icons Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, B.B. King, Chubby Checker, Ray Charles, Connie Francis, Pat Boone, Tom Jones and Tony Bennett. The nightlife jewel was patterned after the New York City nightclub of the same name. The original was suspiciously destroyed, but it set entertainment standards for the East and hosted the who’s who of jazz legends.

Now these performances, more than 300 of them, will be brought back to life in a multimedia project that will include five CDs being released this year and a book with more than 500 never-before-seen photos of the acts at the club. Vol. 1 will be released this month, Vol. 2 on July 1 and Vol. 3 on Aug. 3.

*Hercules and Andromeda hunk Kevin Sorbo hosts his annual celebrity golf tournament today, to support the World Fit For Kids! Charity, at Planet Hollywood and Dragon Ridge Country Club. Celebrities attending include Dennis Quaid, Marcus Allen, Joe Theismann, Dennis Haskins, Rollie Fingers, Tommy Dreesen and Willie Gault.

*We’re just 18 days away from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and actors Michael Welch and Justin Chon will be on the red carpet tomorrow night at the new Crown Nightclub in The Rio, and you can bet fans will be bloodthirsty to learn secrets from them about the new movie.

*Former President Bill Clinton and his entourage dined in the main room at Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak at MGM Grand yesterday. After dinner, he took time to shake hands and take photos with guests and staff. … Hometown rocker Vince Neil was spotted at Tao’s Worship Thursday last night. The Motley Crue frontman was joined by wife Lia and friends to celebrate the birthday of Zowie Bowie’s Marley Taylor. The group dined at Tao before hitting the upstairs nightclub. Vince opens his Tres Rios cantina and tequila bar at the Las Vegas Hilton tomorrow.

*In celebration of the World Cup, Caesars Palace and Planet Hollywood invite guests to attend viewing parties tomorrow. Fans can watch their favorite teams on 42-inch plasma screens go head-to-head for the coveted title. Celebrity guests of honor Matt Goss, headline singer at Caesars Palace, and celebrity soccer pro Joe-Max Moore host the parties that are free and open to the public. Attendees will be entered for a chance to win a party in a Caesars Palace or Planet Hollywood luxury suite.

*Cheap Trick kicks off its Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Band run with full orchestra backing and The Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick at the Paris.

*Pepper shakes and spices up the sounds of summer with its Hawaiian reggae rock at the Hard Rock Hotel.

*The Tower of Power is at South Point through Sunday.

*Soul Asylum exits the “Runaway Train” with Kin and Dave Ritz to perform at Aliante.

*Fischerspooner and Dan Black are at House of Blues in Mandalay Bay.

*Denis Leary and his trademark cynical humor leads the lineup of his Rescue Me Tour with Lenny Clark, Adam Ferrara and The Enablers with Rehab Horns at Hard Rock.

*The 9th Annual Reggae in the Desert includes Barrington Levy, Sly and Robbie, Marcia Griffiths, Eek-a-Mouse and Mystic Roots from 2 to 10 p.m. at Clark County Government Center Amphitheater.

*Longtime local friends and performers Susan Anton, Clint Holmes, Foreigner’s Domenick Allen and Martin Nievera team up as Vocal Soup at The Orleans for two nights.

*Self-taught pianist Wes Winters, known for his uncanny Liberace sound-alike concerts, is at Suncoast for two nights with All Keyed Up.

*Singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw is the headliner in a one-night concert at LAX in the Luxor for the resort-wide, three-day Singles in Sin City.
