It’s been nearly 40 years since Styx formed, but the band keeps on sailing and proves that its music is forever. Tommy Shaw, James Young, Chuck Panozzo, Todd Sucherman, Lawrence Gowan and Ricky Phillips had a full house at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel for a private concert on Wednesday night.
Our contributing photographer Tom Donoghue was invited to shoot the show up close and front and center, and he captured some incredible shots for this morning’s Vegas DeLuxe photo gallery.
Remember “Lady” back in 1975 and “Come Sail Away” in 1977? And, of course, “Mr. Roboto.” The band had four consecutive albums certified multiplatinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Styx has split a few times but reunited in 2003 after the death of founder John Panozzo, and for a while was sidelined when Chuck was battling HIV.
In October 2007, Styx received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Entertainment Buyers Association, and the band’s latest single “Can’t Stop Rockin’ ” released last April sums up their approach to life and music.

Said Tom: “Their music is as great as way back when, and the audience just loved it. There was as much love from the crowd at this show as back in the day!”
