Strip Scribbles: Carey Hart to race at PPR in Summerlin tonight
Hometown hero and freestyle motocross champion Carey Hart will challenge fans to race him at the new Pole Position Raceway in Summerlin tonight. Carey, who owns Wasted Space and Huntington & Hart Tattoo in the Hard Rock Hotel and was the first rider to perform a motorcycle backflip at the Gravity Games, will sign autographs for fans. The event will be broadcast live on X107.5 FM.
The 60,000-square-foot raceway is the second indoor speedway the company has opened in the Las Vegas Valley since December 2007 with exclusive racing memorabilia, video games, billiards, HD televisions and state-of-the-art, Italian-made, eco-friendly electric karts. More than 200,000 speed demons, including California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mel Gibson, have raced nearly 1 million miles around the quarter-mile track at its first location opposite Palms Place.
NASCAR champion Kurt Busch, supercross champions Jeremy McGrath and Chad Reed and ESPN/ABC personality Jamie Little are among the investors.
*This Friday, Elvis Presley would have celebrated his 75th birthday, and it was the day that Cirque du Soleil had originally planned to open its new show Viva Elvis at Aria in CityCenter. Instead, it will be the week’s only preview show to acknowledge his birthday, as the show is now in rehearsals and fixation for a little more than two weeks. We posted a story on Monday about producers responding to rumors about delays.
As a mark of respect to the King of Rock and Roll -- after all, I was made a member of the private Elvis Snowman’s Club in Nashville many, many years ago by Col. Tom Parker! -- I have bought my pair of $265 tickets to watch the Friday birthday tribute performance. Cirque, meantime, is offering 75 tickets for the show at $75 apiece, and each guest attending reportedly will received the new Elvis 75 CD. It’s a busy week for Cirque because it debuts Varekai at London’s Royal Albert Hall tonight, and G4TV.com is premiering the special Inside Ka tomorrow.
Priscilla Presley admitted that she had tears in her eyes when she watched the show, and even though they divorced, they remained close. She is an enthusiastic supporter of Viva Elvis. Here is the song Elvis sang after their split:
Some who’ve seen Viva Elvis in previews say it’s such an emotional experience, you can feel his spirit in the theater. In that vein, we’ll wish him birthday greetings -- but from afar! Viva Elvis previews resume Jan. 17, with the premiere set for Feb. 19.
*They made worldwide headlines waltzing right through vigilant White House security, and, emboldened, even got themselves photographed with President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Now, despite possible charges being filed by the Secret Service against Tareq and Michaele Salahi, the party crashers are headed to their own party at Pure in Caesars Palace on Jan. 16. The overnight celebrities, who set out to become reality TV stars on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of D.C., crashed the presidential state dinner for the Indian prime minister just days before Thanksgiving.
Reports had them successfully going through not one but two top security clearances and metal detectors at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. It will be a media blitz next week at Pure for the unexpected guests because they have agreed to walk the red carpet and host their own party. Doubtless, Michaele will post their Las Vegas trip on her Facebook to go with their White House antics, but will security at the nightclub be tighter and tougher than at the POTUS’ residence? And will Michaele be feted by the Pussycat Dolls with a cake that will certainly be more outrageous than an Indian banquet?

*Stunning Playboy Club beauty Jessica Hinton has been chosen as one of the undisputed Top 10 sex symbols of Las Vegas. The guys are represented by our pal stuntman Carey Hart, Moon nightclub marketing master Jason “J-Roc” Craig, model Alexander Christensen, salon marketer Marco D’Angelo and Chippendales lead singer-dancer Jaymes Vaughan. Watch for the voting and the winner. It just has to be a blonde knockout, if you ask me!
