The Hard Rock Hotel was one rockin’ place on New Year’s Eve, with John Mayer Trio at The Joint, the end of the road for Body English and the birth of Vanity in the new HRH Tower.
John Mayer arrived at the Hard Rock on Tuesday and spent time on the casino floor joking around with staff and guests. On NYE, he dined with friends at Nobu before his concert with his blues band John Mayer Trio. Comedian Bob Saget introduced the trio, and Mayer, looking dapper in a black suit, added rock --– and his sick guitar skills -- to the concert, with a set that included Kanye West’s “Gold Digger” and The Mamas and the Papas’ “California Dreamin.’ ”
A memorable quote of the night from Mayer: “Which women am I impregnating tonight?” To which the audience screamed and waved, and he quipped again, “OK, I’ll take the first three women I saw.” During the concert, he toasted his father, who was in the audience, and after counting down to New Year and the balloon drop, celebrated afterward with family and friends at Vanity.

Vanity opens on NYE
Sadly, I left the concert to head to Vanity before midnight, but I must say that John Mayer has become quite the charismatic performer. Love him or hate him, he knows how to play to an audience whether he’s talking, singing or rocking.
Vanity is reminiscent of the Bank in the Bellagio and LAX in the Luxor, except injected with a healthy does of sex, hedonism and indulgence. The nightclub is an escalator ride up in the HRH Tower, and the entranceway is a braided gold metal corridor. Aside from it being NYE and most everyone bumping and grinding on the dance floor, the dark interior, the unique cyclone chandelier (which reminded me of a volcano lava flow) and the sexy go-go dancers all help the Hard Rock Hotel nightclub live up to its namesake.

DJ Vice rang in the New Year amid his hip-hop, house and techno mash-ups and gave shout-outs to Jason Giambi and Justin Henry. Nicky Hilton was spotted partying at Vanity and hanging out in the DJ booth. Vanity’s patio will be nice in warmer weather, and what a perk to have seating that’s non-VIP bottle service.
Body English closes on NYE
Partygoers celebrated the final night of Body English on NYE. DJ Eric Cubeechee spun for the capacity crowd bidding adieu to Body English after six years. For one last time, drinks were on the house all night long, and there was a champagne toast at midnight. One guest -- reportedly the one with the evening’s largest tab -- received the ultimate souvenir from Body English: the Baccarat crystal chandelier, which was first purchased for $250,000 when the nightclub opened.
The site formerly known as Body English is scheduled to open in April as an after-hours nightspot called Afterlife.
