Country superstar Tim McGraw hit the outdoor stage at The M Resort pool last night shortly after 8, and for the next 90 minutes performed some 20 songs, nearly all of them hits, many of them No. 1’s, and sang two songs from his new album.

Dressed in his signature black leather Stetson, a fitted tuxedo-style white dress shirt and tight blue jeans that showcased why he’s so popular with the ladies (my guest, I’ll call her Shania Hill, said repeatedly throughout the night, “He’s so sexy!), McGraw praised Las Vegas: “Good evening! There’s a lot to look at in Las Vegas! … It was cooler when I was 28!” (At 42, McGraw has been married to country singer Faith Hill since 1996).

McGraw’s greatest-hits set list included “I Like It, I Love It,” “Indian Outlaw,” “Where the Green Grass Grows,” “For a Little While,” “Red Ragtop,” “The Cowboy in Me,” “Back When,” “Nothin’ to Die For,” “Just to See You Smile,” “It’s a Business Doing Pleasure With You,” “Something Like That” (you know, I had a barbecue stain on my white T-shirt) and, before the encore, “Real Good Man.” His encore was “Last Dollar (Fly Away),” during which he slapped hands with the front row, and his Grammy Award-winning “Live Like You Were Dying” -- his powerful, long end note on “Dying” garnered sustained applause and ended the concert.

McGraw performed “Good Girls” and “You Had to Be There” from his new album Southern Voice, which dropped Tuesday. McGraw, recently in town for Andre Agassi’s annual Grand Slam fundraiser, kicks off a 60-city tour in February with Lady Antebellum, who opened for Kenny Chesney here at The Joint in April.
