Strip Scribbles: Kato Kaelin has a new role — Wedding crasher

Tonight is the debut of pop culture personality Kato Kaelin as a celebrity crasher at Tony ’n’ Tina’s Wedding in Planet Hollywood. Kato was known as America’s favorite houseguest during the O.J. Simpson trial in the 1990s when he gave testimony about what he saw and heard the night Nicole Brown Simpson was murdered. Kato, who has gone on to appear on TV shows and commercials, will be the guest crasher until April 9. He currently hosts National Lampoon’s Viral Videos and is touring with the male answer to The Vagina Monologues known as The Weenie Manologues!
*Former undisputed junior middleweight champion Winky Wright opened his training camp doors yesterday. Winky began his workouts in preparation for his April 11 bout against Paul Williams at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. It will be a 12-round bout presented by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, with Chris Arreola vs. Jameel McCline in a heavyweight bout being presented in association with Don King. The fights will air live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing series.
*For the 14th year, the Extreme Sports & Musical Festival roars back to life tomorrow at Desert Breeze Skate Park. The House of Blues at Mandalay Bay is sponsoring a nonstop stage of rock bands including Bad Religion, Silverstein, The Vandals, Framing Hanley, Suicide Silence, Blessthefall, Big B and 7th Son. Local pro rider Ricardo Laguna will host the BMX Dirt Jump contest. Also featured: women’s roller derby, the Vegas AmJam Skate and pro wrestling by Adrenaline Unleashed. The festival begins at 11 a.m. and runs until at least 10 p.m. Tickets are $20.
*Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning actress Patricia Clarkson will receive the ShoWest Independent Award for Excellence in Acting at the movie convention’s luncheon next Thursday at Bally’s and Paris. This summer, Patricia will be seen in Woody Allen’s Whatever Works, scheduled for release June 19. It will be screened at ShoWest. The actress also will be seen this year in Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island with Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Michelle Williams. Pieces of April earned Patricia Academy Award, Golden Globe, SAG Award, Broadcast Film Critics Award and Independent Spirit Award nominations. On television, she won two Emmys for her guest-starring role on HBO’s Six Feet Under.

Guns ’n’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke performs tonight at Sunset Station. He came to town a day early so he could take wife Daniella Clarke, founder/owner of Frankie B jeans, and daughter Frankie to The Beatles Love at The Mirage last night. Gilby checked out the autographed Beatles guitar in the Love Boutique while Daniella and Frankie picked up vintage Beatles T-shirts before the show started. … Pro poker player Jean-Robert “Action Bob” Bellande was in a group of pals reveling in the limelight at LAX in the Luxor. They partied until the early morning hours with Belvedere cocktails and ice-cold Fiji water. … Psychic healer and spiritual trainer Gary Spivey attended the sexy male revue The Men of X at Hooters.

*Tao Beach kicks off this evening as the outdoor oasis becomes an extension of The Venetian nightclub every Friday and Saturday, even though the star-studded grand opening isn’t officially until April 18. On Monday, Tao Beach officially opens for daytime fun in the sun throughout the 18,000-square-foot paradise playground.
The Rolex International Federation for Equestrian Sports World Cup Finals are set to be held in Las Vegas on April 15-19 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
*A showdown of Olympic proportions is set for this year’s Dressage Finals at the 2009 Rolex FEI World Cup Finals in Las Vegas. Anky Van Grunsven of The Netherlands and Isabell Werth of Germany head the list of 15 riders from eight countries set to compete. The Rolex World Cup Finals returns to the Thomas & Mack Center April 15-19. The prestigious event features World Cup Finals in the two Olympic disciplines of show jumping and dressage.

*Television’s beloved comedy actors Ray Romano and Kevin James team up for two nights of late-show comedy at The Mirage.
*Two-time Grammy winner Sheena Easton takes the “Morning Train” to the South Point for two nights. The Scottish-born singer, who lives here, is a single mom to two children from her four marriages! She’s well known for the James Bond theme “For Your Eyes Only” and the controversial hit “Sugar Walls.”
*The three Osmond Brothers and their harmonious voices provide another musical look at the first family of music and song up at the Suncoast through Sunday.

*After nearly 30,000 performances, Folies Bergere at the Tropicana has its final curtain call. Some 400 former cast members during its nearly 50-year history will pose on the stage’s grand staircase for one final photo.
*Tickets go on sale today for two big concerts: The Jonas Brothers bring their world tour to the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Aug. 1 with American Idol Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks and rising stars Honor Society, and country kings Keith Urban and Glen Campbell “Escape Together” at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on July 18.

*Basketball greats Bob Knight and Billy Packer will record their TV series Survive and Advance at the Wynn sports book right after the NCAA March Madness games. Guests on the show will be Jerry Tarkanian and George Raveling, along with former NBA player Christian Laettner. The show then airs on Fox Sports at midnight.
*Four rock groups are set to play the House of Blues: Hollywood Undead, Haste the Day, Broken Cycle and Senses Fail. For the complete opposite, the gospel experience Praise shouts hallelujah at South Point.
