Stunning actress Catherine Hickland, who starred on the hit series Knight Rider with ex-husband David Hasselhoff, says that she’s been obsessed with hypnosis since she snuck into a nightclub at age 17 to see Pat Collins. Now after literally a lifetime on stage and television, she’s combining those experiences with her passion for trance. In fact, she’s written a book using the principles of hypnosis. “I absolutely believe in mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter,” she laughed.

When Catherine came to Las Vegas for a book signing at Borders for her guide The 30-Day Heartbreak Cure, she had an epiphany. “Living here is great for me. I just knew this was where I was supposed to be, and I put an offer on a house a week later. I’ve been a local now the past three months. … After only three months, I feel as home as I have ever felt anywhere in my life. What a tremendous city Las Vegas is. It’s also from where I want to expand my hypnosis show.” Catherine’s skills can be seen at LookIntoMyEyes.net.

Catherine also runs her own company Cat Cosmetics, hosts the radio call-in show Conscious Loving and also travels the country as a motivational speaker. Catherine was part of the first Knight Rider Festival downtown this past summer, which included the new NBC show’s star Justin Bruening, and said the second festival will be in March with more than 20 KITT cars. Catherine owns a KITT car, which will be in the show. “I love driving him here in Vegas once in a while, and it sure gives grown men a chance to re-live a moment of their youth,” she laughed.

*Our Nevada Ballet Theater has been performing The Nutcracker for nearly 30 years, and until this year, the same production for the past 10. Now with the first-ever move to the Strip, changes are in store for the Sugar Plum Fairy at the theater in the Paris, including new choreography from Ballet Idaho Artistic Director Peter Anastos, new sets and costumes by Christina Giannini and more than 100 roles for kids. The celebrity sleigh riders have been dropped, but local TV personalities Alicia Jacobs and Kim and Dana Wagner are emcees. Performances start tonight and run through the weekend and again on Christmas Eve.

*The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel headliner Carlos Santana partnered with Three Square food bank, World Hunger Year and AEG Live last month to help children in need by collecting food and monetary donations at his resident show Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits. The guitar guru’s foundation also made a donation. The combined efforts raised nearly $40,000, which will help provide 120,000 meals to Las Vegas families in need.

So where did MGM Mirage honchos dine on Aria’s opening night? CityCenter President Bobby Baldwin chose Union and Gold Lounge for dinner and drinks, while MGM Mirage Chairman and CEO Jim Murren took his wife Heather, mother and friends to Julian Serrano for lobster paella. Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, his wife Gelila and his Las Vegas partners Tom Kaplan and David Robbins and their wives Lynn and Anna also were there. Elaine Wynn, Robert Earl, George Maloof, Steve Lawrence, Edye Gorme, David Brenner, Rex Lee and basketball personality Jim Gray also were at the Aria opening. … Newly single Bride Wars star Bryan Greenberg and Victor Rasuk of HBO’s How to Make It in America had dinner at Fix in the Bellagio and afterward stopped by the Bank and Caramel Lounge.

*You’d have thought after all the excitement of the past 15 days with the openings at CityCenter that we’d be over all the excitement. Not so, because today the new Planet Hollywood Towers opposite CityCenter have a soft opening. This is a 52-story, nongaming residential and hotel tower with 1,200 suites as traditional hotel rooms and timeshares. The first 20 residents move in right after this afternoon’s ceremony, with the first hotel guests checking in Dec. 28 for New Year’s and a grand opening gala in January. The top five stories feature 40 luxury penthouses, with the cream of the crop being a palatial 12,000 square feet. Planet Hollywood chieftain Robert Earl and Westgate Resorts head honcho David Segal, who partnered on the towers, will attend today’s ribbon cutting.

Now it’s time for us to cut the ribbon and open up the varied entertainment delights for this, the quietest weekend of the tourist year. It’s time to unveil what we refer to affectionately around here as the ROYAL ROBIN RUNDOWN:
