O.J. media circus gears up for round-the-clock coverage
It’ll probably go down to the wire as lawyers make fevered last-minute pitches to the Nevada Supreme Court -- but TV trucks and crews along with anchors and celebrity reporters are moving into place this weekend for the expected Monday morning start of the much anticipated O.J. Simpson trial. The remaining issue is that co-defendant Clarence Stewart wants to be tried separately from Simpson. Judge Jackie Glass wants to press ahead with one trial for the two defendants with no further delays. The case stems from a "gang that couldn’t shoot straight" raid on the Palace Station casino led by O.J. in an aborted attempt to “re-capture” memorabilia and merchandise he claims originally was stolen from him. All the others involved in the raid have copped pleas and will testify against O.J. The cable TV networks plan round-the-clock coverage from the downtown courthouse so expect to see the legal fireworks being unmercifully hashed out on all the primetime news shows. If you’re driving downtown, stay well away from the media circus and paparazzi invasion!
