For Kaptain Robbie Knievel, there’s no rehearsal before Mirage volcano jump

An army of more than 100 people will have less than two hours to move three ramps into exact position on the Strip at The Mirage tonight starting at 6. The problem for stunt daredevil motorcyclist Robbie Knievel is that they’ve never done it before, and there will be no time to check it before he makes the 200-plus-foot jump over the 900-degree fireballs of the exploding Mirage volcano. Hard to believe, but that’s not the worst of the problems. ... Read more...

It’s final curtain for three Las Vegas shows

It’s time to say a fond farewell! This Sunday marks the end of not one but three musicals on the Strip. One is a long-running hit, the other is a newcomer, and the last is one that might well reopen within a few days! Here’s the breakdown: After nearly six years and more than 2,200 performances to 2 million ticket-buyers, the ABBA-based musical Mamma Mia! ends its run at Mandalay Bay. It was back on Feb. 13, 2003, that the ... Read more...

Titanic exhibit an emotional experience and chilling reminder of historical tragedy

There’s a definite chill in the air when you step out on the deck re-creation of the new Titanic exhibit. One moment you are marveling at the stunning staterooms and grand lobby of the great ship, and the next you’re so close to the icebergs, you can actually touch them. It’s a highly emotional moment that takes you right back to the horrendous 1912 maritime disaster that drowned 1,523 passengers. The rich, the famous and the unknown were among those ... Forget the North Pole and Disneyland: Santa Claus loves Vegas, baby

I discovered Santa Claus doesn’t go back home to the North Pole — or even to Disneyland — when he rests up from that amazing round-the-world, whirlwind trip on Christmas Eve. Now he’s gone even one step farther: To promote the Dec. 22 opening of his new Encore Tower, Steve shot a ... Read more...
